Just when you thought Virgil van Dijk couldn’t get any better, the Liverpool defender goes and proves he had a sense of humour as well.
After an incredible season where the Netherlands captain barely but a foot wrong, Premier League players voted for Van Dijk as the PFA Player of the Year.
Having not been dribbled past and after keeping 20 clean sheets so far in the league, few can argue with the result.
But Liverpool fans would have been somewhat dismayed to see pictures of their defensive hero wearing a Manchester City shirt resurface on social media.
However, Reds supporters will be delighted to learn the image was from December 2016 when Van Dijk was still a Southampton player and merely linked with a move to the Etihad.
As a joke, his Saints teammates bought him a Citizens shirt to wear for Secret Santa after rumours of a move away from St Mary’s began to gather pace.
As if being one of the best defenders in the world wasn’t enough, it seems as though Van Dijk can also take a joke really well too.
Earlier this season, Watford captain Troy Deeney joked about how much he ‘hated’ playing against the 27-year-old
â€Å“I’ve said it many times, I hate him,†Deeney told BBC Radio 5. â€Å“I hate going up against him.
â€Å“He’s too big, too strong, too quick, too good on the ball, loves fighting, a good head of hair.â€
Despite all the superlatives surrounding the former Celtic defender, there is certainly a steely resolve to accompany the obvious talent.
Following his world record move to Anfield, it became evident the £75million was a worthy investment by Jurgen Klopp.
And now, with a Premier League and Champions League double still extremely possible, Liverpool fans will be hoping this is the last time they have to see their star man in a different shirt.
