Liverpool legend Steve Nicol believes Manchester United should replace Ole Gunnar Solksjaer with Massimiliano Allegri this summer.
The Italian is only just available after being sacked by Juventus on Friday after five trophy-laden seasons in Turin.
ESPN pundit Nicol claims there is ‘no contest’ between the two managers and United should do all they can to convince the Italian to take the reigns at Old Trafford.
Since being appointed permanently back in March, Solskjaer has endured a miserable run of form as Red Devils manager.
While discussing who was better equipped to manage the Premier League giants alongside his fellow pundits , the 57-year-old is adamant there is only one winner.
“I know there’s the human element in it,” he said on ESPN. “But really?”
“Who would you rather have as your manager, Allegri or Solskjaer?
“Seriously, it’s no contest.”
Since replacing Antonio Conte in 2014, Allegri managed to deliver 11 trophies and reached the Champions League Final on two occasions.
Having previously spoken of his desire to work in the Premier League, the failure to secure a European title for the Old Lady appears to not have bothered the 51-year-old as he spoke of his pride at managing the bianconeri.
TROPHIES WON AT JUVENTUS
Massimiliano Allegri has enjoyed a glittering career in charge of Juve...
- 5x Serie A
- 4x Coppa Italia
- 2x Supercoppa Italiana
Allegri said: “We evaluated the future of Juventus and obviously the club decided to take a direction next year without me, but that doesn’t change anything.
“We have grown together and it is the right moment to leave the club in the best possible way.”
