Arsenal vs Valencia: How the Spanish side could line-up against the Gunners, with former Real Madrid stars

Valencia take on Arsenal in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final tonight hoping to get to their first European final since 2001.

On their way to the Champions League final defeat to Bayern Munich that year, they pitted their wits against the Gunners, although at the quarter-final stage, and won on away goals after a 2-2 aggregate scoreline.

Back then, the Spaniards also visited London first and won 2-1, so the omens are good initially, while their line-up could have eerie similarities thanks to an Italian full-back, an Argentine centre-back, and a Scandinavian star.

Manager Marcelino is, though, without World Cup 2018 star Denis Cheryshev (knee), ex-Gunner Francis Coquelin (suspended), and Geoffrey Kondogbia (thigh).

Their opponents are in far worse shape, in terms of absentees, with the Gunners missing Hector Bellerín (knee), Rob Holding (knee), Aaron Ramsey (hamstring), Denis Suárez (groin), and Danny Welbeck (ankle).

Valencia will take hope from their rivals’ poor recent form with Unai Emery’s side losing three consecutive Premier League matches and conceding three goals in each of them, but the Spanish outfit have also lost their last two, being beaten by Atletico Madrid and Eibar in LaLiga.

So how could they line-up at the Emirates? Find out below.
