Tottenham news: Fans left disappointed by decision not to show first game at new stadium on TV

Tottenham fans not able to get their hands on a ticket for the first game at their new stadium will also not be able to watch it on TV.

Spurs will host Crystal Palace on Wednesday, April 3 at the redeveloped White Hart Lane on the same night Manchester City play Cardiff City, with Sky Sports showing that game instead.

Tottenham’s new stadium will finally open next month

Neil Warnock’s side were originally due to play City on April 6, but the game has been rearranged because of the FA Cup semi-final clash between Pep Guardiola’s title chasers and Brighton.

It’s fair to say there were a few Tottenham fans unhappy with the decision and they have expressed their disappointment on Twitter.

Spurs must get through two test events at the new stadium before they play Palace.

The first will be an Under-18s match against Southampton on March 24, with the second being a legends game against Inter six days later.

The club are also threatening to suspend fans who attempt to resell tickets at an extortionate price with reports of some supporters quoting £1,200 for the opener.

And while season ticket prices have been frozen for next season, the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust issued a statement expressing their worry match day tickets will price supporters out following the decision to increase the cost.

Spurs are currently third in the Premier League, one point ahead of rivals Arsenal and face Liverpool next, having not won in four Premier League games.

However, during that run the club reached the Champions League quarter-final, beating Borussia Dortmund both home and away to produce an all-England tie against Manchester City.

Supporters not able to catch the match from inside the stadium will be forced to find a pub showing the football. Authorities have decided that two designated fan zones should close just before kick-off, while officials ruled nowhere in the city centre should be able to show the game on a big screen.
